Based on Victor Hugo’s timeless novel and featuring the unforgettable Academy Award-nominated score from Disney’s animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a sweeping tale of love, courage, faith and what it means to be truly human.

Hidden high in the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral, Quasimodo longs to experience the world beyond its walls. During Paris’s Festival of Fools, he encounters the spirited Esmeralda, whose compassion awakens his hope for acceptance and freedom. As the city turns against her, Quasimodo must choose between obeying the powerful Archdeacon Frollo and standing up for the person who showed him kindness.

With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Peter Parnell, this powerful stage adaptation combines beloved songs from the Disney film—including “Out There,” “God Help the Outcasts” and “The Bells of Notre Dame”—with new material and the darker, more complex themes of Victor Hugo’s original novel.

A Special Note for Audiences

This is the licensed MTI stage adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Although it features the Menken and Schwartz score from Disney’s animated film, it is **not** the Disney film script or a stage recreation of the movie. The story follows Victor Hugo’s novel more closely, explores mature themes and does not have the familiar Disney ending.
